OSTHEOPATHY
Osteopathy is the softest
kind of manual therapy, which means treatment with hands. It’s aim is to dissolve
pathological locks and blocks. But unlike the manual therapist, who applies
force from outside, to set patient’s vertebra in place osteopath uses his
skills to create conditions for the body, which make it just natural for the
vertebra to return to its appropriate position.
By the way the appropriate
physiological position of organs in the body is not a rigidly fixed point, but
the possibility to move freely in all directions, staying within certain
borders. This can be compared to an electron moving in an atom, following its
orbit. If an electron stops or leaves its orbit, it will lead to the disintegration
of the atom structure.
This basic concept of
osteopathy has been shaped by its founder A.Still. He postulated, that a
disease appears in the place where the mobility of the organs is obstructed and
the organ can’t be sufficiently supplied with blood.
The modern medicine starts searching
for etiology (reason) and pathogenesis (the development of the disease) at the
moment when the pathological lock is already there, and venous blood stagnates
in the damaged organ. Under these
conditions the risk of infection or tumor cells growth increases substantially.
And then there is no other
way but “shooting sparrows with canons” which means taking drastic measures like antibiotics,
analgetics, surgery or transplantation.
Unfortunately, it is too
late then. Osteopaths say that if the pathological symptom has already
developed, it means the treatment should have been started 2 or 3 years ago. At
this critical stage neither osteopathy nor academic medicine can help.
But most of the patients
decide to consult an osteopath only when their condition is almost hopelessly
grave.
It is a bad strategy to
wait, until the pain in the back or headaches go away on its own. If you
discover such alarming symptoms or any other kind of physical discomfort, you
should consult an osteopath as early as possible.
If you come to an osteopath
in time, you have a good chance to prevent the development of new diseases and
stop the progress of those you already have. It is also important to take care
of your children’s health, so that they don’t have to go through the same
problems as their parents.
P.S. There are no rules
without exceptions. There are wonders, and they occur not only in osteopathy,
but also in the OP table. Sometimes even a hopeless disease can be cured. You can
read about these lucky exceptions in “What we cure”.
